Banwell FC tournament raises £1k for Gracie’s Appeal
Weston-super-Mare’s emergency services joined forces with a village football team on Sunday in aid of a six-year-old girl, who needs an operation to help her walk.
The football tournament took place at Banwell Football Club, in Riverside, and raised £1,000 for Gracie’s Appeal.
The appeal is raising £60,000 to pay for an operation which will enable Gracie, who is from Worle and has cerebral palsy, to walk unaided for the first time.
Matches were played between Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership and Avon and Somerset Constabulary, the Banwell under-13`s team and their parents, and Avon Fire and Rescue Service against a team of Banwell FC veterans.
Music on the day came from Dr Love’s Vinyl Revival and spectators also enjoyed refreshments during matches.
Gracie’s grandmother Julie Thorne thanked everyone at the club for organising the day.
She said: “We had a great day at Banwell FC. Everyone seemed to enjoy their games and there were no serious injuries.”
